Mark Newgent for Congress – Issues Statement
Mark Newgent is running for Congress with one mission: to put America First and Texas First again. After serving 20 years in the U.S. Army and growing up in deep poverty, he knows firsthand what rising costs, bad policy, and government indifference can do to working families. He is running to fight for the Texans who feel forgotten, priced out, and pushed aside by Washington politicians.
Texans are facing the highest costs in decades. Groceries cost more. Rent and home prices are out of reach. Utilities, insurance, and gas keep going up. At the same time, Congress continues to send billions overseas and fuels endless wars while ignoring the people right here at home. Mark is determined to change that. His top priority is to restore affordability and dignity for every Texas family.
Below are ten core issues Mark will champion in Congress:
1. Affordability, Cost of Living, and Housing
Mark is making affordability the heart of his campaign. He will work to bring down the rising costs of groceries, rent, utilities, childcare, and everyday essentials.
He believes families deserve to live in homes of their own, not compete with Wall Street firms and private equity companies that buy up entire neighborhoods and drive prices even higher. Mark supports stopping corporate ownership of single-family homes, cracking down on predatory real estate practices, and helping Texans afford homes again.
He will also push for responsible federal spending, accountability, and a balanced budget to bring down inflation and restore the purchasing power of everyday Texans.
2. America First Foreign Policy
Mark believes the United States must take care of its own people first. He will oppose sending billions overseas in foreign aid, especially when Americans struggle to pay their bills. He will vote against blank checks to Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan, or any country that does not directly advance American interests.
3. Texas First Economic Prosperity
A strong Texas economy means strong Texas families. Mark will support policies that protect Texas jobs, strengthen our energy industry, promote local manufacturing, and cut burdensome regulations that hurt small businesses.
4. Secure the Border and Fix Immigration
Texas is the front line of America’s border crisis. Mark will fight for real border security, stronger enforcement, and measures to stop cartels, human trafficking, and illegal crossings. He supports a legal, orderly immigration system that puts American interests first.
5. Protecting Veterans
As a retired Army Captain, Mark will always stand with veterans. He will push for faster and better medical care, housing support, job placement programs, and mental health resources. His position is clear: America must take care of its veterans before spending money overseas.
6. Healthcare Texans Can Afford
Mark will work to lower prescription drug prices, increase price transparency, expand access to doctors, and reform the healthcare system so it supports patients instead of insurance companies and bureaucrats.
7. Parental Rights and Education Reform
Parents should always have a say in their children’s education. Mark supports school choice, stronger academic standards, and removing political agendas from classrooms. He wants safe, supportive schools that prepare students for real success.
8. Defending Constitutional Freedoms
Mark will defend the First Amendment, protect the Second Amendment, oppose warrantless surveillance, and stop the federal government from overreaching into the daily lives of Texans.
9. Energy Independence and Lower Utility Costs
Texas powers the nation. Mark will support traditional energy, clean energy innovation, and infrastructure improvements that keep electricity reliable and lower energy bills for Texas families.
10. Ending Corruption and Special Interests in Congress
Mark is running to change a broken system. He supports banning members of Congress from trading stocks, closing lobbyist loopholes, and preventing special interests from writing legislation. He will always put the people of Texas ahead of political insiders.
